The self-proclaimed ‘Malt Whisky Capital of the
World’ where the River Fiddich and Dullan Water meet. Founded by James Duff,
4th Earl of Fife, in 1817, with both the Glenfiddich Distillery and the
Balvenie Distillery nearby. At the centre of the village a clock tower
houses a museum, while the ruins of one the oldest stone-built castles in
Scotland, Balvenie Castle lie. The ruins of Auchindoun from the 15th century
lie two miles from Balvenie.
