The old village of Macduff lies across the bay
from Banff, and features a marine aquarium with the deepest tank of any in
Britain. Formerly known as Doune and renamed in 1783, in honour of his
father by the Earl of Fife, James McDuff. The busy harbour, with its lobster
pots and fishing nets, was first built in 1760. An annual exhibition has
been set up by a group of volunteers known as the Banffshire Maritime
Heritage Association.
