The historic town of Eyemouth, known for fishing,
dates back to the 13th century. The harbour is still active with today. The
local museum illustrates the town's history, and commemorates the great
fishing disaster of 1881, with a magnificent tapestry. 189 fishermen were
lost at sea during this great tragedy. The River Eye provides a natural
harbour and sandy beaches. The Herring Queen Festival takes place in July
when the fishing fleet escorts the newly chosen Queen from St. Abbs to
Eyemouth. Visitors to Eyemouth will enjoy free parking.
