Once a famous coaching town, Beaconsfield lies
within the Chiltern Hills and proudly features many old inns. For example,
The Royal White Hart is said to have played host to Elizabeth I. A top
attraction of the area has to be the Bekonscot Miniature Village, with
claims to be the oldest of its kind anywhere in the world. Hughenden Manor,
was the home of the British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli (1804-81). Also
known as Earl of Beaconsfield, he is buried at the Manor House. Edmund
Burke, the political philosopher was born in Beaconsfield in 1729 and buried
at the restored 15th century church. The writer GK Chesterton lived on the
outskirts at Top Meadow, along with the author Enid Blyton who lived at
‘Green Hedges’. There's a tranquil, wooded park on the outskirts of the
residential area, where an ancient barn lies.
