Originally the old church rectory featuring the half-timbered Tudor style of Chester, the hotel is situated in its own eight acres of peaceful woodland, yet offers easy access just off Junction 17 from the M6. Famed for its Thursday market, which attracts
traders and shoppers from a wide area, and home of The Ancient Crosses, one
of the finest Saxon memorials to Christianity in Britain. Smashed by
Puritans in the 17th century, a county-wide search was instigated to collect
the dispersed fragments, the monument was restored in 1816. Historical
buildings of note include the Old Hall Hotel (1656) with its magnificent
timber frame and striking design, and the half-timbered Black Bear of 1634.
