The historic town dating back to at least to the
6th century when St. Petroc built a priory, later rebuilt as the largest
church in Cornwall. The town’s jail was used to hold the Domesday Book and
the Crown Jewels during the First World War, and was also the site of
Britain’s last public hanging during the 19th century. The regimental museum
of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry features many military exhibitions.

Bodmin and Wenford heritage railway. The ancient tradition known as the
Bodmin Riding takes place during July, whilst three prehistoric stone
circles and the remains of a Bronze Age tomb can be found on Bodmin Moor.
