The Melrose is perfect for a weekend retreat, a mid-week break or a family holiday, Melrose is furnished to an excellent standard, as identified by its four star rating by Visit Britain.

 

 
If you are celebrating a special occasion, let us know if you would like us to arrange to have flowers, chocolates and champagne waiting in your room on arrival. Guests are welcome to partake of the Low Wood Hotel leisure facilities which are located close to Ambleside, set facing Lake Windermere, and boasts a swimming pool, steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi and gym. The outdoor hot tub really does soothe those aches away and takes some beating. Beauty treatments and massages can also be booked for a special relaxing treat. Passes are subject to availability (we have four that can be used at any one time). All guests have a front door key, to come and go as they please. There is safe storage for bikes, also drying facilities for outdoor clothing. We provide free flask refills- just ask after breakfast. We have an excellent selection of maps and books and are always ready to suggest nearby walks or mountain biking tours you may wish to try directly from Ambleside.

 

The property has been recently renovated and modernised, there is now a sense of old meets new, which provides a relaxing and calming feel. The house boasts many Victorian features such as the 'Red triple room' Victorian fireplace, which takes centre-stage and is marvelled by all. Recently (October 2008), we achieved the accolade of a Bronze Environmental Award from the Cumbria Business Environment Network. All our rooms at Melrose are either en-suite or have private facilities each room tastefully decorated and all have colour TV, hair dryers and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities. Blessed with beautiful scenery, this bustling market town provides everything a visitor could want from the numerous shops offering wares for walkers and climbers, to the many drinking and eating establishments. We have 17 letting rooms all en-suite and recently refurbished to a high standard.

Every Sunday there is a live singer, Churchill's is also the premier venue for big screen sports viewing. AMBLESIDE

An old market town and one of Lakeland’s most popular tourist hotspots since the 19th century. The poet William Wordsworth worked here, there's a Wordsworth chapel at St. Mary's Church. He once taught at the Rydal House, nearby. Mrs. Hemans author of ‘the boy stood on a burning deck’, lived at ‘Dove Nest’. The town features a number of 17th century buildings, including a watermill. Now a National Trust information centre, The Bridge House s an interesting folly crossing the beck of Stock Ghyll. There's also a medieval rush-bearing ceremony at St. Mary's Church each July.
