The predominantly Georgian market town of Wigton
has Norman roots dating back at least 1,000 years. It's pre-medieval town
plan can still be traced today. A feature of the market place, is the 19th
century fountain by the Pre-Raphaelite sculptor Thomas Woolner. Built of
granite, it features four bronze relief's depicting the Acts of Mercy.
