Cumbria is England’s second largest and least populated
county, with much of its appeal for tourists due the
Lake District National Park.
Designated as a national
park in 1951, the Lake District was largely unvisited
until the 18th century, it was deemed as not an ‘ideal’
location for tourists.
Bailey Mill is set on
the English/Scottish border, a 20
minute drive away from Carlisle.
This converted 18th Century grain mill offers
comfortably furnished and fully equipped
courtyard apartments in an arrangement of single
and two-storied buildings, sleeping 2-8.
TV's, microwave, jacuzzi and sauna. Disabled
facilities (cat 2) in 2 apartments. Dogs
welcome. Horse-riding on-site (beginners
welcome). Food served in the fully licensed bar.
Cost £198 to £588. Short breaks (out of season)
from £108 per apartment for two nights, sleeping

Our Self Catering flats
are located within the buildings of the Old
Brewery Residences. We are situated in the
centre of the town and 5 minutes walk from the
main shopping and restaurant areas of the city.
Major bus routes pass our site and the local
train station is 10 minutes walk away. A taxi
rank is immediately outside the station.
All bedrooms have bed,
desk/drawer unit, and wardrobe, wash hand basin,
desk and easy chair. We provide all linen and
towels for each guest. The larger flats have a
bathroom, shower room and 2 toilets. Smaller
flats (4 bed roomed) have shower room and 1
separate WC. Flat 7 (our specially designed
flat) has 2 showers – one fully designed for
wheelchair access. The kitchen in this flat also
has adaptations for the disabled. We provide a
large fully fitted kitchen/dining and living
space. Electrical appliances, plus all crockery,
cutlery and cooking utensils. There is a dining
table and chairs within this area as well as
comfortable, easy chairs.

With Hadrian's Wall the Lake District and southern Scotland all within easy touring distance Rose Cottage is an ideal place to base a Cumbrian holiday. One of a pair of single storey cottages it enjoys its own garden. There is golf and fishing at Brampton (8 miles) and cycle hire windsurfing and canoeing at Talkin Tarn Country Park 9 miles away. Carlisle (10 miles) offers a cathedral and a castle together with excellent shopping. Lanercost Abbey is also 10 miles. An excellent area for walking. Pub ¼ mile restaurant 2 miles. Shop 8 miles.

Great day trips can be enjoyed in Ullswater and the Lakes which are just a short drive away and the nearby village of Armathwaite (1½ miles) provides a village shop and pubs serving food as well as a variety of walks and outdoor activities and a rural station offering gloriously scenic journeys on the famous Settle–Carlisle railway.
