Designated as a national
park in 1951, the Lake District was largely unvisited
until the 18th century, it was deemed as not an ‘ideal’
location for tourists.

catering cabins and caravans (3 nights minimum
stay), and seasonal holiday caravans (minimum
stay 3 nights). Equipped with gas cooker, gas
fire, kettle, fridge, bath or shower & toilet.
Own bed linen & towels required. Touring
caravans and tents welcome. Hardstandings and
grass, electric hook-ups, toilet/shower block.
On site facilities include basketball hoop,
childrens swings, pool tables and table tennis,
washing machine and dryer. Holiday seasonal

Set in the tranquil hamlet of Mockerkin on the fringes of the Lake District National Park, Kilndale Cottage lies just a few miles from Buttermere and the Loweswater valley and fells. Adjoining the owners' home it enjoys an elevated position and a small private balcony with views over the surrounding countryside. Walks in breathtaking scenery are enjoyed nearby and Maryport's harbour and aquarium (12 miles) are well worth a visit as are Muncaster Castle and the Ravenglass to Eskdale railway (both under an hour's drive). Cockermouth (Wordsworth's birthplace) offers shops pubs and restaurants 5 miles away.
