Welcome to Kerrington House. Set in beautifully landscaped gardens on the edge of Axminster, Kerrington House has been lovingly restored, retaining many period features.
A old market town in the valley of the River Axe,
the weaver Thomas Whitty made hand-knotted carpets for wealthy clients,
Axminster’s name is now a byword for high quality carpets. The oldest
building, the 13th century Church of St. Mary the Virgin, boasts gargoyles,
a Tudor porch, a 12th century effigy, and a magnificent Axminster carpet.
The local museum has a section devoted to local carpet making and displays
relating to the town’s Saxon origins.
