Built in 1866, Travellers Rest Old Church now invites guests to relax in unique bed and breakfast style accommodation surrounded by unspoilt, open countryside. Original stone walls, stained glass windows, antique furnishings and a grand wooden staircase constructed from pews which once stood in the church are just some features that bring character to this magnificent building. One of the oldest towns in Britain, Barnstaple
lies in the Taw Valley and features a 16th century, 16-arch bridge as well
as many old buildings. The local museum can be located within a former
grammar school, which dates back to the 14th century. Arlington Court, a
Regency house run by the National Trust, is packed with artefacts such as
model ships, tapestries, pewter and shells. One of the finest collections of
19th-century horse-drawn vehicles can be found within the stables.
