The heights of Hartland Point (325 ft) offer magnificent views and invigorating sea air and Hartland Quay and Clovelly – a peaceful Devon village where donkeys and sledges are the only traffic through quaint narrow streets – are a delight. To the south of Bude lie Widemouth Bay Boscastle and Tintagel. The whole coastline is a walkers' paradise whilst further afield visitors will find the granite plateau of Dartmoor and the infinite charms of Exmoor and the Eden project is about 1½ hours' drive. There is sailing and wind surfing (courses available) on Roadford Lake (4 miles away) as well as fly fishing for brown trout and a perfect place for picnics. Golf riding and tennis are available locally.
The market towns of Holsworthy Okehampton and Launceston offer good amenities and there is a shop/P.O. and pub serving food in Ashwater (1½ miles).
