At the crossroads of key routes to the awesome
Devil’s Beeftub, lies Moffat. A famous spa town, in the 19th century,
attracting many aristocrats to the region. Also an important wool centre, a
life-like statue of ram stands in its main street. Chapel Street in the town
centre is the shortest street in Scotland, and Syme Street the narrowest,
lets not forget the narrowest hotel! The head of Fighter Command in World
War II, Lord Dowding, was
born here, whilst John McAdam, the man who invented tarmac, is buried here.
The magnificent Grey Mare’s Tail Nature Reserve, is a short drive from
Moffat.
