Set in 120 acres of parkland, Hardwick Hall Hotel lies in the heart of the beautiful County Durham countryside. Stunning views may be enjoyed across the gardens and lake. The hotel is located just off the A1(M).
This ancient Norman village was granted a market
charter in AD 1312. During the early 19th century coaches ran daily to
Leeds, whilst the town manufactured agricultural ephemera, including
saddlery and straw hats, along with flour milling and shoemaking. A well
known landmark is the medieval Church, due to its tall tower and the
converted hotel at Hardwick Hall, is on the doorstep of Hardwick Country
Park. One of the main attractions in the area is a racecourse used for
National Hunt, the only one in County Durham. There are also shops, clubs,
sports facilities and a "village green".
