ABERDOUR
On the A921, between the Forth Bridges and
Burntisland, lies Aberdour. The origin of this towns name is taken from the
River Dour, on which is stands. Aber literally means 'mouth of river'. In
the care of Historic Scotland, the ruined Aberdour Castle with its walled
garden, stands on one side of the river, on the opposite banks, Aberdour
House, home of the Earls of Morton. The Douglas family moved into the house
after leaving the castle in
1725.
