The former Scottish capital for over 500 years,
its history can be traced back to approximately 1065. Malcolm Canmore moved
his court to the area and built a fortress. Queen Margaret, his second wife,
founded a Benedictine Priory here, which was later given the status of an
Abbey. Her tomb in the abbey has become a shrine, and the tombs of Malcolm
Canmore and Robert the Bruce can also be found here. For the golf enthusiast
there's a choice of three 18-hole golf courses. The town also features a
small museum & gallery.
