The Old Station
Stravithie Bridge Saint Andrews KY16 8LR
The Old Station, as the name suggests, is a Victorian railway station, elegantly converted into a guest house which now provides luxury accommodation to visitors from both the local area looking for a short break and international visitors looking for a relaxing holiday in St Andrews the home of golf.
St. Andrews bustles as a holiday resort during
the summer months, and become a more subdued academic centre in term time.
Famous for its 12th Century cathedral, 13th Century castle, 15th Century
university and, of course, golf, which has been popular here since the 15th
century! Not bad for a town that started life as a religious centre
associated with Patron Saint of Scotland. Built in 1160 to which pilgrims
travelled to view the relics at
St. Andrews Cathedral and, although now in ruins, the Cathedral's
magnificence still does not fail to impress. Also on the site, St Rule’s
Tower, is part of the first Augustinian church from the early 12th century.
Founded in 1410 by the Bishop of St. Andrews, Henry Wardlaw, St. Andrews
University, the first of its kind in Scotland and third in Great Britain.
Today, some of the halls of residence are offered as accommodation to
tourists
during the summer months.
