FORT WILLIAM
Fort William is the largest town in the
Highlands, under the watchful presence of Britain’s tallest mountain, Ben
Nevis. Developed around a fort built by Oliver Cromwell, and now a major
tourist centre particularly known for climbing, hill walking, mountain
biking and sightseeing. Both the 95-mile West Highland Way and the Great
Glen Way terminate at this point. The movies “Rob Roy” and “Braveheart” were
both filmed in the nearby hills, and if its history you're interested in
then the West Highland Museum contains significant mementoes of ‘Bonnie’
Prince Charlie.
