Picturesque Carrbridge lies on the banks of the River Spey and has the
oldest packhorse bridge in Scotland, though its first modern bridge was
built in the early 18th century so that funerals would not be held up when
the river was in spate. The railway arrived in the late 19th century
allowing the village to exploit its tourist potential. An Austrian
established Scotland’s first ski school here in the 1950s. The Landmark
Visitor Centre is a 'green' theme park set in a forest. One of its
attractions is a steam-powered sawmill.
