The charming English seaside town’s popularity
began during the Regency period, due to its exhilarating clifftop walks and
no less than seven sandy bays. Close to Botany Bay Beach, which is cleaned
daily and has life guard cover from mid June to September. The Anglo Saxons
noted that Broadstairs was a broad place, the town probably took its name
from a set of steps cut into the cliffs during the 15th century. It is
believed to have inspired John Buchan’s famous book ‘The Thirty Nine Steps’.
Whilst on the subject of authors, Charles Dickens lived here, in a
castellated, clifftop holiday home, which he renamed Bleak House, its also
where he wrote the novel David Copperfield.
