From this first
floor apartment you look over the enclosed
kitchen garden which has supplied the castle
with vegetables, fruit and flowers for over 300
years. There is also a good view of the ancient
and curiously sculpted yew hedges lining the
Broadwalk and leading up to the castle.
But the real joy of
this apartment is its proximity not only to the
castle, but also to the long sweep of shingle
beach and the sea – less than five minutes walk
away.
Walmer Castle has many reminders of its former
inhabitants. The Pitt Museum contains
memorabilia of William Pitt the Younger, the
Duke of Wellington’s room reflects the
simplicity of the living / sleeping quarters he
chose, whilst close by in the Wellington Museum,
aspects of the Duke’s private life are on
display including a pair of the famous
‘Wellington’ boots.
