Once a major port where sailors in The Wash would
take their bearings from the 272ft tower of St. Botolph’s Church, aka ‘The
Stump’. The sound of small-boat engines can still be heard in Boston's
quays. In 1630 a band of Puritans set sail for America, they became the
founders of Boston in Massachusetts. There's plenty of old buildings to
enjoy, including the 15th century Guildhall and the 18th century Fydell
House, home of the Pilgrim College. The Maud Foster Windmill is the tallest
working windmill in the country, and it stands next to the Maud Foster
Drain. This five sail windmill was built in 1819 to grind corn. Amazingly
flour is still produced by the mill today.
