Situated on the side of the Lincolnshire Edge, an
escarpment which marks the boundary of the Vale of Trent, the ancient
village of Leadenham was recorded in the Domesday Book (1086). No trace
remains of the wooden Saxon church mentioned in the Book but a stone church
dedicated to St. Swithun replaced it in 1320. Open to the public on certain
days of the year, the 18th century Leadenham House is surrounded by parkland
and 3000 acres of farmland. It features extensive views over the Vale of
Trent.
