known as Bacton Abbey) were founded in 1113 as part of Castle Acre Priory.
The building is mentioned in Chaucer’s ‘Canterbury Tales’ and in 1233 it was
visited by Henry III. Man-made concrete sea walls guard the coastline, and
the church of St. Andrew stands on a hill near the ocean. Bacton is situated
close to Cromer, Great Yarmouth and Norwich.
