CROMER
Cromer was originally a fishing port that was
transformed into a holiday resort in the 19th century and later described as
‘poppyland’ by the journalist Clement Scott. The local lifeboat museum
provides further evidence of sea-going interest. There's a statue of
Cromer’s real-life local hero, Henry Blogg, and the town’s unique museum can
be found within five old cottages. The Church of St. Peter and St. Paul
features the tallest tower in Norfolk (160ft). There are 70 acres of iron
workings dating from Saxon times at Beacon Hill. Nearby stands Felbrigg
Hall, a Jacobean mansion built in the 17th century and landscaped by
Humphrey Repton. This National Trust property contains fine paintings, a
stunning library and walled gardens.
