Peddars Way B&B
Thetford IP25 6QT
In this lovely listed farm house, we offer Bed and Breakfast accomodation and Self Catering in our Stable Conversion. Accommodation graded 4* ETB.
Once the capital of the Danish kingdom ruled by
King Sweyne and then Canute, Thetford later became a Norman stronghold. All
that remains of the 12th century castle is a large mound. The Ancient House
Museum with its fine carved beam ceilings is a timber-framed Tudor building.
Thetford itself was the birthplace of the radical philosopher Thomas Paine
(1737), author of ‘Rights of Man’ and ‘Age of Reason’. A statue of him
stands outside the Elizabethan Bell Hotel. Nearby, the 50,000-acre Thetford
Forest contains four species of deer and even the rare, red squirrel
flourish.
