A small town with its own moot hall, Daventry's
attractions include Daventry Country Park and the Braunston Marina. Located
on Borough Hill are impressive earthworks, once the boundaries of one of
Britain’s biggest Iron Age hill forts. The campsite of the Royalist army,
prior to their ill-fated attempt to defeat the Roundheads at the Battle of
Naseby in 1645. The headquarters of Charles I were located at Daventry and
there are rumours that the king slept at the Wheatsheaf Inn.
