COMMENTS:
I stayed at the hotel for one night after taking
my son back to university and I
found the hotel to be very clean and
comfortable. The en-suite bathroom "pod" was a
bit quirky but perfectly functional. The couple
that run it were friendly and helpful, without
being intrusive and the breakfast was excellent
The only down side was the road noise when the
window was open.
I felt that the hotel offered good value,
traditional accommodation and would definitely
stay there again.

The ancient city of Nottingham offers a superior
mix of large department stores, specialist stores and everything else you’d
expect from a modern metropolis - from nightlife to cinemas and restaurants.
Its most famous character is an outlaw – Robin Hood. Legend states that
Robin and his merry men lived in Sherwood Forest. There really is a castle
here and at one time it was commanded by King John and his merciless
Sheriff, along with a number of statues of the archer-warrior. Built by
William Conqueror in the 11th century, with reconstruction by the Duke of
Newcastle, today the castle is the city’s museum and art gallery. In fact
Nottingham has a host of museums, ranging from a lace museum and a Lace
Centre to a museum of costume and textiles. The 16th century Woollaton Hall
is also a natural history museum and industrial museum. The Brewhouse Yard
Museum traces the city’s life through the ages and the Shire Hall is home to
the Galleries of Justice. Beneath Nottingham’s streets is a unique labyrinth
of over 400 man-made caves. There are reconstructions of a tannery, air raid
shelter and Victorian slum. Newstead Abbey, built by Henry 11 in the 12th
century to atone for the murder of Thomas Becket, an later the home of Lord
Byron. Now its a museum. The poet is buried at nearby Hucknall Church. The
city is also famous for its annual Goose Fair (October), a tradition dating
back to the 13th century. Nottingham also has two inns, ‘The Salutation Inn’
and the ‘Trip to Jerusalem’, from the same period.
