The Boars Head
is one of the earliest surviving
buildings in Bishop's Castle, which
itself is a former borough and a market
town of ancient foundation.
The town takes its name from the Castle
(of which little remains) built here in
Norman times by the Bishops of Hereford
who were Lords of the Manor.
Much of the original construction of the Inn
remains today. The exposed beams are all genuine
and the log fire warms the Bar on a winters
evening. The Bar serves a selection of real ales,
lagers, wines and spirits.
Accommodation at the Boars Head is in the "Curly
Tail" which has previously been used as the Stable
Block for 16 horses, a bar and function room, but
was converted in 1988 into four motel-style
bedrooms. Every room is fully equipped with
en-suite bathroom, colour TV, tea and coffee tray
and direct dial telephone. Wireless Broadband
Facilities are also available at the Inn.
An extensive Menu is served lunch times and
evenings with a variety of dishes from the
traditional to the exotic served in the
Restaurant. The Inn is well known in the area for
its Sizzlers - with steak, chicken, Fish, Bacon
and sausages - offered on a Sizzling Cast Iron
Skillet as well as its All Day Breakfasts (served
only during meal service).
