This traditional seaside resort on the West
Sussex coast was a modest fishing village, until the middle of the 18th
century, when the Victorians discovered sea air and the joy of bathing. Its
reputation received a royal boost from King George III, he sent his youngest
daughter Princess Amelia to test the town’s health-giving properties. With
four-miles of flower-bedecked promenade, theatres and Regency properties,
Worthing maybe less glamorous, but it still remain just as bracing for
visitors to the area today as did for the Victorians in its heyday.
