This single storey
stone-built former gatehouse has something of a
Hansel and Gretel feel about it with partly
leaded glass windows, huge wrought iron hinges
on the front door and an enclosed and secluded
garden. But it is the setting that is
unbeatable: the cottage looks out over the very
field where the most famous and influential
battle in British history was fought - the
Battle of Hastings in 1066.
Guests have free
access to the battle field and, during public
opening hours, can walk through the Abbey
grounds to the attractive high street in Battle.

with an historic house, a fortified castle or
a great estate. But rather than try to
recreate that past in our interiors we’ve
