The highest market town in Yorkshire, 800ft above

and cattle. Surrounded by limestone fells, Hawes was once a key centre for
lead mining and limestone quarrying. Today it is famous for the manufacture
of Wensleydale cheese, the favourite snack of TV characters Wallace and
Gromitt. Dales Countryside Museum and the Cotter Force waterfall are a must
