MASHAM

An old market town above the River Ure, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Famous for its beer since 1827, Theakston Brewery makes delicacies such as ‘Old Peculiar’ and more recently joined by the Black Sheep Brewery. Nearby, the ruins of Jervaulx Abbey, founded in 1156 by the Savigny monks. Wensleydale cheese was first produced here, until its destruction during the reign of Henry Vlll.
