This pretty Swaledale village was dominated by a
very large, sloping green and was an important centre of the lead mining
industry. Today its Swaledale Folk Museum attracts many visitors. One of
several ecclesiastical buildings St. Andrew’s Church is known as the
‘cathedral of the Dales’, and was built by monks from Bridlington in the
12th century.
