Ripon is a beautiful market town that was founded

Cathedral City where monasteries have stood since
the 17th Century. The old city of is filled with

including Ripon Cathedral, the Wakeman’s House,
Studley Royal, Fountains Abbey and Ripon Spa
Gardens where a Victorian bandstand is set.

Country living at its best when you stay at Mallard Grange, an Award-Winning 5 Star Farmhouse B&B, or in Mallard Cottage, a pretty two bedroomed self-catering country cottage, separate from the B&B in the nearby village of Aldfield. There are three steps into the main farmhouse and the two guest bedrooms in the main farmhouse are reached via a winding staircase, not suitable for guests with walking difficulties. There are two ensuite ground floor guest bedrooms in an converted Blacksmith's Shop which are suitable for guests with walking diffculties, but cannot accommodate wheelchairs. By arrangement, we accept Guide Dogs in the ground floor guest rooms only. The parking area has a level surface and is well lit at night. From a central obelisk in Ripon’s market square,
a horn is sounded at 9pm each evening by an official horn blower known as
The Wakeman, his 13th century house contains a small museum. An 18th century
mansion, Newby Hall, is one of the finest stately homes in the region. From
the spectacular ruins of Fountains Abbey to the adjacent grounds and
magnificent garden of Studley Royal, to Ripon’s magnificent cathedral,
originally a church built in the 7th century. Its crypt can still be seen in
the 13th century cathedral, which also contains 500-year-old woodcarvings
and many wonderful stained glass windows.
